NYT Today Wordle No. 1165 Hints and Answer for August 27, 2024

It’s Tuesday, August 27, 2024, and I’m Doug. It’s time once again to dive into some Wordle fun!

Today Wordle Hints

Before we dive into today’s puzzle, let’s look at some hints to help you get closer to the Wordle answer:

  • Vowels: The answer contains 1 vowel, (A,E,I,O,U).
  • First Letter: The first letter is 'C'.
  • Repeated Letters: There are no repeated letters in the word.

Now that you’ve got some hints, let’s dive into the puzzle!

First Guess: Phase

Our good friend Randy sent in a message saying, “Great solve!” Perhaps he’s referring to my last couple of days’ puzzles, where things went surprisingly well. Randy suggested, “Why not try ‘Phase’ as in phaser—our great Star Trek word?” While I wish we could use "Akira" (for the Akira-class Star Trek vehicle), unfortunately, that’s not in the Wordle word list. But "Phase" definitely is, so why not give it a shot?

Shoutout to all the Star Trek fans out there! If you’re a fan, let me know in the comments. And hey, if you’ve got an inside Star Trek reference for me, I’d love to hear it!

So, let’s give "Phase" a try. What do we get? Oh, no! Our phaser blasters failed, and it seems we’ve been conquered by whoever is generally going after the Star Trek guys. Sorry, folks—I’m not the most knowledgeable when it comes to Star Trek, but I love you guys nonetheless.

Second Guess: North

Let’s shift gears here. How about a Star Wars reference? Hmm, I’m drawing a blank on a good five-letter word from Star Wars. Maybe Wheel of Fortune? Nope, no "E" in the puzzle. Gosh, what about the word "North"? Let's try that—it’s a direction on a compass, after all.

We got three letters out of position: N, O, and R. Not bad, though we’ve broken our streak of getting four green tiles on the second guess from the last two days. But hey, no big shakes, right? Let’s see what we can do with this information.

Reworking the Letters

Alright, let's try moving the "R" to the front. We know the "O" can’t be in the second spot. I was going to say "rumor," but we need to put the "N" somewhere, so that's out. "Ornate" is six letters—no good. And "orgon"? Nah, the "A" has already been guessed. Maybe the "R" in front is a red herring.

What about the word "donor"? Nope, that doesn’t work either—the "O" is yellow in the second spot. How about "snort"? Nope, the "S" and "T" have already been tested. This puzzle is turning out to be quite tricky!

Third Guess: Crown

NYT Today Wordle No. 1165 Hints and Answer for August 27, 2024

Alright, let's try putting the "R" in the second spot and the "O" and "N" at the end. How about "crown"? That feels right. Let’s go with it.

And there it is! The answer to today’s puzzle is "Crown." We got it! Three days in a row with four green letters on the third guess—how about that?

Wrapping It Up

I have to say, I’ve been feeling pretty lucky with my plays these last few days. How about you? Let me know in the comments how your puzzles are going. I’m always on the lookout for new starting words, so keep those suggestions coming!

Believe it or not, tomorrow is already hump day—Wednesday! And yes, I’ve already got my starting word picked out: "Smile." So, take a big smile when you join me tomorrow, and let’s hope for another smooth solve.

See you tomorrow for more Wordle fun!
