NYT Today Wordle No. 1247 Hints and Answer for November 17, 2024

Hello everyone, and happy Sunday! I’m your Wordle companion, and it’s time to dive into today’s Wordle puzzle adventure. Jeff B. (aka "some old guy gaming 8896") suggested starting with the word "burnt", with a wise caution: "When you play with flames, you could get burnt." Let’s find out if playing with "burnt" pays off—or if it leaves us singed.

Today Wordle Hints

  • Number of Vowels: The word contains one vowel.
  • First Letter: The word begins with the letter ‘T.’
  • Repeated Letters: There are repeated letters in today’s wordle.

Example Hint:

  • The word refers to keeping a count, score, or record of something.
  • It can also mean a mark or number used for this purpose.
  • You might use this word when keeping track of points in a game or marking items in a list.
  • Example: “Let’s keep a ______ of our expenses this month.”

First Guess: Burnt

Starting with burnt, we found some heat—but not the flames we were hoping for. The T made its appearance at the end, though not in the correct position. A solid start, but there’s much work ahead.

Second Guess: Slate

Next up, I decided to wrap the T with some of the most versatile letters in the game: S, L, A, and E. The word slate seemed like a sharp choice. And wow, it delivered!

  • The T is still misplaced.
  • We picked up two new letters: L and A, both out of position.

With three letters identified, it was time to put on my thinking cap.

Third Guess: Latch

I debated several options, but latch seemed like the right fit. It placed the L and A strategically while respecting the constraints of earlier guesses. Unfortunately, "latch" wasn’t the solution, but it gave us a valuable insight:

  • The T is definitely at the front.
  • The A found its rightful place in the second spot.
  • The L remains elusive.

Fourth Guess: Tally

The "aha" moment struck! What if the solution had a double L? The word tally perfectly fit the puzzle. It confirmed:

  • The T and A were in place.
  • If the first L was yellow and the second gray, we’d know exactly where the L belonged.

Drumroll, please... tally was the answer!

This puzzle was a fun challenge. I spent time visualizing possible letter placements and even wrestled with my own instincts, mistakenly thinking a second vowel was necessary. The lesson? Sometimes simplicity wins.

On Monday, we’ll kick things off with the word roast. Let’s see if it’ll bring us some spicy clues or if we’ll roast ourselves in the process.

As always, I’d love to hear how you did in the comments! What was your approach, and how many guesses did it take? Also, feel free to suggest your favorite starting words—I’m always looking for inspiration.

Thanks for playing along, and I’ll see you tomorrow for another Wordle adventure!
