Hints for Each Category

  1. Category 1: Vegetable Units

    • Think about culinary terms that describe small, specific parts of vegetables or herbs.
    • If you’re cooking, you might add one of these “units” at a time to a dish. Terms like clove or stalk could be good leads here.
  2. Category 2: Words Related to Complaining

    • This is a bit subtle, but consider words that imply grumbling or dissatisfaction.
    • Words like grumble or bellyache often describe expressions of discontent. These terms may hint at complaints.
  3. Category 3: Symbols of Justice

    • This category is about items associated with justice or its symbolism. Think of common representations of justice, perhaps in statues or courtrooms.
    • If you've ever seen the statue of Lady Justice, think about the items she holds or wears. Blindfold and scales may ring a bell here.
  4. Category 4: Computer Specifications

    • Look for words that could be associated with technology or qualities you might find listed in computer specifications.
    • Commonly discussed in tech contexts, speed and resolution are strong candidates.

Step-by-Step Thought Process

If you still want answer then follow me along or you can find the answer at the end.

Attempt 1: Astrological Signs?

As I looked over the list, my first instinct was that some words might represent astrological signs. I noticed “Ram” and “Crab,” which represent Aries and Cancer, respectively, and I thought “Scales” might represent Libra. However, I couldn’t find a suitable fourth sign, so I decided to put this theory aside.

Attempt 2: Finding the Vegetable Category

Next, I started noticing that some of these words had culinary uses. “Clove,” “Spear,” and “Stalk” sounded like they were related to food items, specifically units of vegetables or herbs. Then I saw “Floret,” which I don’t use every day but realized also fits as a vegetable unit. This guess turned out to be correct, and it was a good start to solving today’s puzzle!

Attempt 3: Words for Complaining

With one group down, I still had quite a few words left, and I focused on “Grumble,” “Bellyache,” “Crab,” and “Carp.” I realized these words have meanings associated with grumbling or complaining. Complaints was the category, and I had another one locked in!

Attempt 4: Justice Symbols

I was left with some puzzling words—“Scales,” “Blindfold,” “Robe,” and “Sword.” At first, I mistakenly thought these might represent symbols on the Statue of Liberty, but I then realized they were actually symbols associated with Justice. Lady Justice, often depicted with scales, a blindfold, and sometimes a sword or robe, fit the category well.

Attempt 5: Computer Specs

Finally, with just four words left, I focused on “Storage,” “Speed,” “Resolution,” and “RAM.” These words are all common in technology contexts, specifically related to computer specifications. This last category fell into place, and I felt confident with all four groups!

Revealed Answer Groups

Here’s the final list of categories and how today’s words fit:

  1. Vegetable Units: Clove, Spear, Stalk, Floret
  2. Complaints: Grumble, Bellyache, Crab, Carp
  3. Symbols of Justice: Scales, Blindfold, Robe, Sword
  4. Computer Specs: Storage, Speed, Resolution, RAM

I’d give myself about 3.5 out of 4 today because I went down a few rabbit holes. The Justice category was tricky, and the astrological red herring threw me for a while. If anyone else thought of the Statue of Liberty too, you weren’t alone!

So, how did you all do? Did any particular category trip you up, or did you breeze right through? I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments, and feel free to give me a “score” based on my deductions today—it’s always fun to compare!

As always, thanks for joining me for today’s Connections puzzle. And, of course, I’ll be back tomorrow for more puzzling fun. See you then!
